We are all traveling this world together, and we all want the same thing at the end of every day. We want to feel safe, to be warm and have a full belly. We want to share those things with the people who are important to us. The divisions we create, the walls we build between each other because of a sports team, because one of us sees holiness in a star and the other in a cross, because I like donkeys and you like pachyderms, all that does not matter. What matters is us, here at the same time.
That is the bottom line. That is where the bullshit stops, when we realize that we are in this together. We do have battles to fight, but they are not ones that can be won with weapons and anger. The true fight is to make others see that we are one; that we are all here together and that we can live better when all of us live better. We must stop trying to do better than others since that means pushing them down while we clime up.
We are not the difference, we are not the flags we pledge allegiance to. We are individuals in a sea of other individuals. We have hope and fear, and so do they. Let’s try to ease their fears and understand that their path is not ours.
